572 Stones Crossfire Hurricane

I was born … in a crossfire hurricane …

and I howled at my ma in the driving rain …

but it’s all right now … in fact it’s a gas …

I’m Jumping Jack Flash, it’s a gas, gas, gas.

Who-ever could be so eloquent but MIck & Keef. Now there are three seminal Stones movies:  Gimme Shelter,  by Albert and David Maysles (to which the SMH's Paul Byrnes provides a background story),  Martin Scorsese’s  Shine A Light  and this here  Crossfire Hurricane  ... one about the band today, the others about the formative years, Shelter about the infamous Altamont concert, Hurricane with Brian Jones ... his death, his replacement Mick Taylor and the rise of Ronnie Wood (poached from Rod Stewart and the Faces after Taylor said, "I'm leaving the band", got up and walked out; for good). These are three great movies. If you like the Rolling Stones. Which I do. I wrote an essay about my take on  the Stones.

it was on ABC 2 ... watch it on iView

The point for me with these movies is that they are music movies ... Crossfire is a docu too, probably a docu in the first place, but with great music, put into context ...

"In addition to portraying the original Stones as being “vulgar, obstinate, and hostile,” Crossfire Hurricane also displays the band’s eloquent and subversive intellect. During footage from The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus Mick Jagger discusses how the “Sympathy for the Devil” character was inspired by Baudelaire and how the Apocalyptic sound of Beggars Banquet was a product of the state of the Western world in 1968: “The violence was all pervasive and you can’t help but live in it and reflect it back again and then, of course, it goes into a feedback loop.”

Jumping Jack Flash  (original, no video)

I was born in a crossfire hurricane

And I howled at my ma in the driving rain

But it's all right, it's all right, in fact it's a gas

But it's all right, yeah it's all right

I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash, it's a gas, gas, gas

I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag

I was schooled with a strap right across my back

But it's all right, it's all right, in fact it's a gas

But it's all right, yeah it's all right

I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash, it's a gas, gas, gas

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead

I fell down, to my feet and I saw they bled

And I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread

I was crowned with a spike right through my head

But it's all right, it's all right, in fact it's a gas

But it's all right, yeah it's all right

I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash, it's a gas, gas, gas
